Recent events remind us once more that school safety is everyone’s responsibility. Administrators, first responders, parents, and the community share the obligation to keep our children safe and secure while they are on school property.

I was surprised with the focus on patient satisfaction as a centering theme at HIMSS this year. Hospitals are valuing the patients more, due to the impact of lower bonuses and future payments tied to poor HCAHPS scores (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), and having improvements in the service levels will drive loyalty.

Today’s educators and educational institutions face a variety of challenges as they prepare their students to compete in a global economy. Technology has changed how their students learn – and how they will live and work in the future. Technology also however, provides the most effective and economically viable means to meet those challenges.
