Experience Matters

"The term 'mission critical' takes on a whole new meaning when it applies to healthcare. Implementing technology in healthcare requires a 'change in rigor'," says Donn Wurts, Managing Principal of the healthcare division at Nexus. "You can't take someone who's been selling into manufacturing, throw them into healthcare and expect success. They need to understand that an IT outage could spell life or death for a child in an emergency room." Wurts speaks from his experience at Kaiser Permanente prior to joining Nexus.

I just want to make sure that you know from my perspective as an IS Director, you have a couple of top-notch people working for you. I've worked with quite a few a vendors of different technologies, but the technical support people from other companies just don't have the same level of professional knowledge, skills and commitment. These guys go above and beyond to take care of the customer.

Industry Focus

Healthcare

As part of Nexus' Core Foundation Services, Temperature Monitoring improves quality of care, simplifies regulatory compliance, increases labor efficiency and productivity, and reduces spoilage

Potential benefits include:

  • Documents regulatory compliance using automated sensing and logging
  • Increases labor efficiency, removing the need for time-consuming manual logs
  • Constant monitoring of safe temperature and humidity ranges
  • Lowers costs by reducing spoilage
  • Leverages secure Wi-Fi network
  • Variety of battery-powered Wi-Fi temperature and humidity tags

Temp MonitoringThe Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies regulate temperature and humidity management processes in hospitals. Pharmaceuticals, organs, blood bags, vaccines, tissues, food and other items all require strict temperature ranges for quality patient care and safety. Traditionally, that meant nursing, lab, pharmacy and food service staff would perform manual temperature monitoring and logging throughout clinics and hospitals hundreds of times each day.

When combined with Nexus Core Foundation Services, AeroScout's Wi-Fi Temperature Monitoring solution automates the current manual processes that most hospitals have for managing refrigerator temperatures. The system uses battery-operated temperature and humidity sensors that leverage the hospital's existing secure Wi-Fi network, transmitting readings every few minutes to the monitoring software. There are no hard wires and the sensors are simple and easy to deploy.

Exception-based alerts automatically notify staff when a value is out of range, freeing valuable hospital resources from the traditional manual checking-and-logging approach. This alerting system also allows for quicker response times, resulting in less spoilage of valuable medication and irreplaceable samples. Wireless temperature monitoring can also be used in data centers and network closets, where sensitive electronic equipment needs to be monitored, or in blanket warmers and food delivery carts. Other condition monitoring applications include humidity monitoring of patient, storage and
operating rooms.
